Britain and its regional variations
There is a lot of factual research to illustrate a divide between the north and south of Britain. Beyond the accents many believe that there is a cultural and economical separation.
Career prospects for example have been noted to have a small disparity in availability. Where job opportunities are fewer further up the country.
On the other hand there are many towns in the north and south that do not fall into this divide pattern.
Birmingham jobs and in many other towns in the midlands, have shown signs of recovering from the recession, with an increasing number of job prospects available.
The complication of Britain’s regional divide is added by the disputes in regions such as the midlands and Birmingham, where there isn’t a clear agreement to which region they belong to.
Among the folklore surrounding the regional breakdown of Britain is its accents, of which variations are plenty.
In most cases Britons are at ease with their varied regional accents, with little need to alter it, however there have been situations where the need arose, i.e. in a job interview process.
There is a lot for one to consider and adapt to in interviews. As a result many individuals prepare and approach it as a role play. This inevitably encourages people adopt what they view as a good tone voice and accent
Many individuals took this approach, in an attempt build a good rapport and understanding with the interviewer.
Interview questions along with other interview aspects encourage people to approach it as a role-play process.
The importance of the one’s accent will vary depending on the situation or job in question.
Sales Jobs are a good example, as many customer facing jobs require individuals to adopt a more universal tone.
The UK television and news broadcasting is the opposite example to what is common in Retail. There are commonly a variety of regional dialects present all of which are viewed as friendly and are accepted by the general public.
As a final word, we must remember that many consider Britain as a feast of delights, a banquet.
From the snowy capped mountains of Scotland to the blue waters of Cornwall; each place has its own dialect, its own charms, and highlights that are enjoyed and celebrated as one, a top place to visit and live in.
